They were lounging in a group in the water with their flippers sticking out ( one flipper per seal) . Definitely seals, darker and smaller than dolphins and not big enough for whales, and close to rocks. Won't swear to species level but genus I am confident. Blurry photos courtesy of Android phone.

Hi Lyndal, the photos are not very clear. How do you know they were Arctocephalus pusillus doriferus (Australian Fur-seal)?

When I think about it, I could tell when they were upside down because their underside was very pale. I imagine that’s a common trait so not helpful for ID’ing.
